"We have delivered over 100 babies and
now we have the delivery bed! You have blessed both us and the Zambian people tremendously!"

One of the many inspirational stories we are happy to share from our Project S.A.V.E. family

An update from Ngandu, August 3, 2008

Once again I wanted to share a note from Renee Marini, the missionary nurse we have shipped to in Zambia. For those of you whom I haven't sent emails to before, this is a couple involved with a group called "Sons of Thunder" which operates a large farm and medical clinic in Zambia.

There are seven villages on their farm, and they, Renee and her husband Sal, handle most all of their medical care. One of the sponsors of this shipment, Dr. Mark Cook from Oakdale, CA, will be going to Zambia to help them for three weeks in August.

Renee had sent me a great story several weeks ago of helping a man, Ngandu, who had come to them at the point of death from aids. God graciously intervened, and Ngandu is recovering. I wrote to her thanking her for her constant updates to us.

The following is her response. It was a joy to see the list of supplies used on these patients--all from Project SAVE.

For those of you who helped pack, sort, donate goods, help financially, or help us ship it, I hope this will be an encouragement to you! You are making a difference in the lives of others and are a blessing! A special thanks to Enloe Hospital for the portable x-ray unit they are now able to use - what a tremendous gift!

Thank you! Janice

Hello Janice,

It is so nice to hear from you and thank you for the encouraging words. Thank you also for sharing and spreading the word! We are honored you have our stories on your website.

At the time we were using the oxygenator for Ngandu, we had a second patient come in and we ended up using both oxygenators at the same time! For Ngandu alone, besides the oxygenator, we used an IV pole, adult diapers and blue chux, a bedside commode and wheelchair... not to mention the mattress he was laying on and the hospital bed... and even the blanket covering him!

Further update... there is a radiologist in Baltimore who just sent us x-ray cartridges and a lead apron and even a labeling machine to go along with the xray machine you sent!! They also sent us ultrasound gel in large quantities since I am now starting to do ultrasounds on all our antenatal patients! Every Tuesday I do a class for the expecting parents and then an ultrasound in addition to Sal's exam and blood work, etc.

We have delivered over 100 babies and now we have the delivery bed! You have blessed both us and the Zambian people tremendously!

Just this last week a dear woman from Maryland near where I live organized and labeled everything in our medical storage area (all stuff from the container) so that it will be easier for me to access things as need arises. Thank you again! More updates and stories to come, I'm sure.

Love, Renee

From our previous story...

Note from Janice: This story is from Renee Marini, a missionary with the a group called "Sons of Thunder", which is affiliated with the Wesylan Church. They have a huge farm and medical clinic in Zambia, Africa, teaching African how to farm, and care for themselves as well as attending to their medical needs. There are seven villages on their "ranch". Renee's husband Sal is a physician's assistant. Many of you will remember loading their 40-ft. container and seeing the photos of it being unloaded in Africa.

Below is one of her stories. I started to send only part of it, but felt "checked", so am sending it just like she sent it to me. Please note that the oxygenators were from our container, the ones given to us by individuals here in Chico who have lost a family member.

The nasal cannulas were from Professional Hospital Supply I'm sure, as we sent them so many durable supplies that PHS had donated to us. We also sent an array of bed linens, IV poles and hospital beds for their clinic. None of these things heal - God did that - but they help so much along the way.

I hope this will be an encouragement to each of you - specially those volunteers who labor so willingly each Tuesday morning, and those who pack out the containers! We are helping to make a difference in the lives of others, many, many miles from here. Thank you for being such amazing people and for all that you do!
